THE GREAT JACK O’LANTERN BLAZE

Van Cortlandt Manor, Hudson Valley, NY

The tri-state area’s biggest, most electrifying Halloween event returns with more pumpkins than ever before! Meander through the 18th-century riverside landscape of historic Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton-on-Hudson and discover a breathtaking display of one of the most artistic and engaging events you’ll ever experience. The Great Jack O’ Lantern Blaze is a spellbinding display of more than 7,000 illuminated hand carved jack-o’-lanterns, which takes over the Van Cortlandt Manor. It takes an hour to leisurely walk along the gravel path leading to the stone Manor House, past the heritage gardens, down to the Ferry House and alongside the Croton River. Look in any direction and you’ll see jack- o’-lanterns—hanging from tree limbs, perched on rooftops and staged in themed vignettes. Walk through a covered bridge adorned with jack o’lanterns on all sides — even the ceiling! — and emerge to the sight of Sleepy Hollow Country’s most iconic inhabitant, the Headless Horseman from Washington Irving’s famous tale, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow! Enhanced by professional lighting and steeped in spooky music and sound effects, this must-see event is a delight for all senses! We’ll start our day with a visit to the fabulous Hudson River Museum. Overlooking the Hudson River and the Palisades, the Hudson River Museum features six art galleries featuring historical material and art related to the river. After the museum we’ll enjoy an early dinner (4:00) at The Briar’s Restaurant in Briarcliff Manor.
