Goodspeed Opera House, East Haddam, CT
Sitting on the banks of the Connecticut River, the magnificent 1876 Victorian gingerbread Goodspeed Opera House is one of the most noted musical theatres in the country. If there is such a thing as a sure-fire musical comedy, Oklahoma! is probably it. Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein’s classic musical has often been called the best musical in American stage history. Cowboy Curly and farm girl Laurey are taking their sweet time falling in love. Can these stubborn romantics admit their feelings before it’s too late? Passion, laughter and high-kicking choreography blossom in a land where the wind comes sweepin’ down the plain. The show features unforgettable songs by Rogers and Hammerstein such as “Oh What a Beautiful Morning”, “The Surrey With The Fringe On Top”, and the title song, “Oklahoma!” Before the show we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch at the historic Griswold Inn nearby.
