HALLOWEEN IN SALEM
OCTOBER 22 - 24, 2017 3 DAYS/ 2 NIGHTS
Salem is a destination that is known for its rich history and traditional New England feel. Best known for the Salem witch trials that took place in 1692, Salem is sure to bewitch you with its seaside charm, its maritime history and spellbinding beauty. Every year during October this picturesque seaport takes on a magic of its own. Even though it’s still a week before Halloween, Salem is already filled with haunted happenings. Our host for two nights will be the Doubletree Hotel by Hilton, just outside of Salem.
When we arrive, we’ll have a guided tour of the quaint New England towns of Gloucester and Rockport, just north of Salem. You’ll see the famous statue of the Gloucester Fisherman and spend some time in Rockport, designated by Disney as one of the most picturesque towns in America.
We’ll also explore Salem with its mysterious past. You’ll see the sights in Salem with your local guide on a bus and walking tour. As you ride through the streets lined with homes from the 17th and 18th century you get a real sense of history in this town that was founded back in 1626. Learn about Salem’s documented haunted history and the mystery that still surrounds olde Salem — a fascinating journey into Salem’s macabre and unusual past.
You’ll get chills as you witness the witchcraft hysteria first hand at the Witch Museum. The museum focuses on the Salem Witch Trials of 1692, one of the most emotional events in American History…..as fascinating today as it was 300 years ago.
We’ll visit The House of Seven Gables. Built in 1668, it is the oldest surviving 17th century wooden mansion in New England, and inspired Nathaniel Hawthorne to write his legendary novel of the same name.
You’ll take a journey through New England’s grand and storied past at Salem’s stunning Peabody Essex Museum, one of the nation’s largest museums.
